Virelec supplies protection, control and SCADA
Hydro Ottawa awarded Virelec a contract to supply the protection, control and SCADA system for the 230/27.6kV Kanata Municipal Transformer Station in November 2001. The AREVA Micom protection range was selected by Hydro Ottawa for the line, transformer, busbar and feeder protection functions. The SCADA was based on the GE D20 RTU configured with the D20C combination board and eight heavy-duty output control relays. |
Hydro Ottawa’s consultant, Elecsar, provided the AC and DC schematic diagrams. Virelec then completed the panel layout and connection wiring diagrams, the procurement of all equipment, and the manufacture and testing of the system in its Mississauga factory.
The complete panels were shipped to site in April 2002 where they were installed and commissioned by Hydro Ottawa’s commissioning contractor. Virelec’s competitiveness and operational excellence in delivering the system has been endorsed by the subsequent award of the Kanata MTS Phase II protection and control system which was commissioned in summer 2004. |
