Engineer/Technologist
Duties:
Field Commissioning
The Service Engineer is responsible for all aspects of field supervision
and commissioning of protection and control systems and portable
P&C buildings per customer specifications. This may include:
- Ensuring field safety requirements
are met
- Supervision of field installation
contractors
- Verification of field wiring
- Verification of external devices
such as CTs, PTs, breakers, communications equipment, etc.,
as relevant to the Virelec Supplied equipment, and/or customer
requests
- Commissioning of protection and
control system through secondary injection and primary injection
verification
- Supervision of station Energization
when requested
- Writing of commissioning reports
- Timely filing of expense reports
to allow bi-monthly billing
Testing
The Service Engineer will participate in the in-house
hands-on functional testing of protection and control systems,
panels, and portable buildings following standard test methods,
standards and procedures for routine production testing, including
point-to-point, hi-pot and functional.
Preferred Background:
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
or Technologist (Power)
- 5 - 10 years direct experience
in field testing/commissioning
- Familiarity with numerical protection
relays from various vendors
- Familiarity with computer operated
secondary injection test sets
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Good grasp of the English language
(verbal and written)
- Excellent computer skills
- Strong interpersonal skills as
there is extensive customer contact
- Knowledge of site safety practises
- Must also have a valid driver's
license
- Willingness to travel extensively,
domestic and abroad
- Willingness to work various shifts
