SYSTEMS INTEGRATION SPECIALIST

JOB DESCRIPTION

The position of Systems Integration Specialist works as part of the Systems Integration team, and reports to the Senior Systems Integration Specialist. The specific duties for the position are listed below.

Design

The Systems Integration (SI) Specialist is responsible for the SI portion of substation automation or SCADA. This position requires the design of systems, and application of engineering theory in the following design elements.

• Design of communications architectures and preparation of associated drawings
• Use of HMI design software to build develop integrated control systems for the electrical power industry
• Preparation of points lists for SCADA systems based on single line diagrams and customer specifications
• Integration of devices from various manufacturers, often using new and unfamiliar protocols and technologies in a project based environment

The Systems Integration Specialist will have CAD design staff assigned to him/her according to the needs of the project and as approved by the Engineering Manager.

Programming and Configuration

SI is responsible for programming and configuration of the equipment according to design documents and points lists. Experience with the following technologies is desired:
• DNP 3.0
• Modbus
• IEC 60870-5-101/103/104
• IEC 61850
• TCP/IP

Testing

The Systems Integration Specialist is responsible for testing any SI work in the final system, in conjunction with and under the leadership of the test department.
Testing covers the following elements, and preparation of the appropriate reports:

• Testing communications of all equipment according to the system architecture drawings
• Checking of SCADA system values during test
• Participation in Customer Acceptance Test or Factory acceptance Testing (FAT)
• Site Acceptance Testing and Commissioning where required
• Training of customers where required

Technical Support

Provide technical support to staff of other departments and functions in the form of:

• Specification and identification of SI component parts required in the production and assembly of panels and systems
• Specification and identification assistance to purchasing staff for SI component parts required in panels and systems
• Assistance with preliminary design and tendering of SI for new projects
• Application queries for IED’s, relays, systems and other related SCADA and control products

Qualifications/Profile

Education:

Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical/Computer Systems/Communications) with a focus of communication and/or automation systems

Experience:

Work experience in the following:
- DNP 3.0 application/programming
- HMI programming
- Modbus application/programming
- Power systems and Relaying
- TCP/IP network setup and architecture
- Troubleshooting communications problems
- SCADA applications and design documentation
- Application Engineering
- Customer interaction
- Project based work
- Team work
