Virelec Protection, Control & SCADA Systems
A unique feature of Virelec is having both engineering and manufacturing capabilities. Our engineers are experienced in design of protection, control and automation, system integration for modern IED’s, SCADA RTU/Master configurations plus relay setting and co-ordination studies. Our manufacturing team is experienced in delivering a range of panel systems from single panels to projects in excess of thirty panels. Virelec also undertakes final commissioning of the protection, control and automation systems supplied (relay secondary injection and function logic testing).

Supplying the complete package avoids impractical interfaces and logistics between design, manufacture and test. It's a walk, not a drive between the designer and the shop floor. Virelec and its employees' experience cover:

HV Transmission Systems
Virelec has design experience at all voltage levels up to 500kV for transmission line, autotransformer, reactor and busbar protection consisting of main and back-up protection plus autoreclosing, breaker fail and synchronising check schemes.
Utility Interconnections for Cogeneration Plants
Various plant sizes from 5MW to 150MW connecting to utility circuits at 27.6kV to 230kV. Systems supplied by Virelec include remote tripping, back-up line protection, breaker fail, LV busbar and power transformer protection.

Utility and Industrial Distribution Systems
Transformer stations fed off utility HV circuits with impedance and directional overcurrent-based line back-up, HV breaker fail, transformer differential plus back-up overcurrent, busbar protection and feeder overcurrent protection.

Generator Protection Systems
Protection systems for generators (hydro, steam and gas turbine) ranging from 5MW to 600MW utilising discreet and multifunction protection relays covering the whole suite of generator protection functions - differential, stator ground fault, reverse power, out-of-step, unbalance, field failure and voltage controlled/restrained overcurrent.

SCADA and RTU Installations
Substation RTU’s and automation systems with integration to modern IED’s for metering and SER data. Local substation HMI’s as well as gateways to SCADA Master stations. Distribution Feeder automation systems and pole-top RTU’s.
